How To Maintain Healthy Lips
If the saying goes, “the eyes have it”, then it can be said that “the lips tell it how it is”. Depending on how they’re dressed, our lips can be the most prominent feature on our face – think Taylor Swift’s classic red lips – but we so often neglect to take care of our pretty petals. Well, it’s never too late to start caring for our pout, and I can show you how!
First: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Our lips have no oil glands, and licking our lips strips moisture away due to our acidic saliva, so we need to give our lips a hand by drinking lots of water and applying all natural lip balm, coconut or olive oil whenever we feel dry. If you’re still dehydrated, consider a humidifier, which will replace the moisture your AC strips from the air.
Second: Scrub, scrub! (Gently)
Sometimes the wind, over-licking, mouth-breathing, or zealous kisses chap our pucker dry. When this happens, mix equal parts honey, brown sugar, and olive or coconut oil, and a squeeze of orange if you want a zesty pick-me-up, mix and apply with your finger or a toothbrush (preferably a new one reserved for these occasions). Gently massage and rinse. Pat dry, apply your Vintage Beauty lip balm, and you’ll be soft, glowing and ready for your up-close-and-personals.
Third: Get your greens!
A healthy diet is essential for a healthy body – and yes – a healthy, soft mouth. Reach for fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, and load up on your vitamins B and E for an extra beauty boost. If you’re eating great and still singing the cracked pout blues, it could be a sign of dental infection or nutritional deficiency. Be sure to listen to your body and note any signs that you might not be absorbing the nutrients you’re feeding it.
